Institutional intelligence shouldn’t require institutional access.
For decades, sophisticated investors have had better research, better data, and better analytical tools than everyone else. AI creates an opportunity to make those capabilities available far more broadly.
Knowledgeable investors have an edge.
Our founder spent three decades across banking, hedge funds, capital raising, trading, and high-frequency trading. In every one of those markets the lesson was the same: sophisticated investors did not simply have more information. They had better research, better systems, and more ways to test what they believed.
Research
Institutional teams can investigate markets more deeply, and keep investigating after the first answer.
Data
More information reveals relationships others miss — across companies, filings, and history.
Systems
Quantitative tools let ideas be tested rather than simply believed.
Agents, automation, and AI change the economics of intelligence.
Traditional research is constrained by human time and attention. AI makes it possible to observe more information, investigate more hypotheses, and apply analytical methods at a scale that used to require institutional resources.
- One analyst
- A limited number of companies
- A limited number of hypotheses
- Many specialized AI agent researchers
- Many simultaneous investigations
- Far more evidence examined
Research is only the beginning.
Quantitative investment firms have spent decades identifying signals, testing them historically, and determining which relationships have predictive value. Sonar IQ intends to apply that same discipline to slower-moving financial and economic signals — over days, weeks, months, and quarters.
- Research signals
- Formalize
- Backtest
- Validate
- Combine
- Predictive signals
Darin Oliver is a quantitative-finance entrepreneur, former Chicago Mercantile Exchange member, securities-firm founder, Wall Street trader, and finance professor.
He built and operated a FINRA-registered securities firm, founded a high-frequency trading business, raised approximately $2 billion in capital for hedge funds, and engineered the acquisition of Bernard Madoff’s market-making business during the financial crisis. He has spent more than three decades across trading, investment banking, market structure, and financial technology.
That experience shaped the central idea behind Sonar IQ: markets reward better information, better analysis, and better systems. AI creates an opportunity to make all three more widely available.
